PRE-WRITING ARTIFACT
Group questions:
What type of audience am I looking to write to?
How can I tie in my part one with part two?
Self questions:
What is at stake in my writing? Why is it important? Who should care?
I’m not quite sure there’s a lot at stake in my writing, but I think it’s important because I feel as though there are so many communities that people can associate with and some are too unheard of. Even here on campus, I am involved in various clubs and organizations that students that have attended TCU for years still have not heard of, and I think that this can be connected to the real world. I think everyone should care about this message to be reminded that there’s a place for them even when it seems as though there isn’t.
What are some of my “and alsos”?
I’m not quite sure about this either…
What kind of link, photo, image, graph, or quote could you add?

THE ARTIFACT
Quite literally, where am I now?
32.70487*N, 97.36627*W
A brief work describing where I am now.
I step outside into the frisky cold as the sharp wind pierces my skin. Soft white flakes tumble from the blue sky above me, blanketing the ground in white. I hear screams and giggles of excitement from girls around me. Girls that, only a year ago, didn't even know my name, and now know nearly everything about me. We jump around in the winter flurry, creating snow angels and hurling chunks of the soft powder at each other, not even caring when it seeped through our many layers of clothing and stung our skin. There we were, creating lifelong memories that I know I'll never forget. My forever home, my forever people.
The passion that I have for what I do only grows. Who would have thought? Who could have thought? I pour my thoughts and emotions onto the pages, letting them ink sink into the thing canvas paper. Other times, I sit in front of a large computer, feeling the slight indentions in the keys of the keyboard and listening to the rhythmic beat of my fingers clash down on the tiles. Twenty-six simple characters. Endless possibilities, each unique in its own way. A world full of curious minds, each searching for a story, or, better yet, each waiting for a story.
I stood in the mirror in front of me, gazing at my reflection. Some parts of me had become hidden over the last few years, others enhanced. I was the the same "me," but times have passed, and could see the changes in myself--my personality and physical features. I knew right then and there that I never wanted to forget that moment, and I knew that I wanted to live in it forever. I don't want to grow older, and I don't want to leave everything that I had created for myself behind. I wonder, in years to come, if I'll ever feel so free again.
A Letter to Home:
Dear Fam,
Hey! I miss you guys so much, but it’s been an amazing past few months here at school. My classes are a bit heavy on the workload side, but it’s nothing that I can’t handle (sometimes). I’ve been pretty busy lately just with school and extracurriculars, so I’ve really been trying to manage my time better and get as much done in the least amount of time possible. Other than that, things have been going really well! I’ve been spending a lot of time with my friends, too, and we’re all so excited about the warmer weather that we’ve been having here. I can’t wait to go lay out in the sun and relax after my classes. Oh, and I’m so excited for you guys to visit! I have a lot planned for us, and I have a few places that I’d like to take you while you’re visiting. Hope to hear from you soon—I love you all!!
Sincerely,
Kat

A Poem Inspired by Bob Dylan's "Forever Young"
I hope you grow up to be courageous
I hope you grow up to be patient
I hope you always know what's right
And see the light surrounding you
I hope you always be generous
Stand upright and be firm
I hope you stay forever beautiful
I hope you stay forever beautiful

PEER RESPONSE ARTIFACT
Kaya McClellan, Cate Locke, Kylie Alt
"Everything that you wrote was so personal, and it made me feel like I knew you really well even someone doesn't know you. I really like how you made all of the passages revolve around all of your senses. Your words are full of imagery, and it helps me create a mental picture of what's going on as it happens."
"This is such good writing and I think it's really cool how you're able to stop and reflect on what you wrote down as you're writing it. You can kind of see yourself reminiscing on these moments like they're happening all over again. The only thing I would do differently is maybe connect them together."
"Just on feedback, if I were you, I would switch up the styles of writing that you're using or come up with different techniques to tell your story. What you did by writing the letter home to your family was really unique and different, so I just think adding other things like that would make your stories even more personal and fun to read."

"Excellent work! I really like what you've put together here. My only suggestion would be simple grammatical errors (easy fix) and maybe filling in the stories with more detail. For example, the passage about you gazing into your reflection in the mirror is very well-written, but maybe you should let the audience in on a bit more information. Did you once see yourself in a different light? What happened? How did you get to that chance, and how did you accept it? Questions like that would draw the reader in more and allow him/her to grasp a better understanding of where you truly "are now." Overall, splendid work! Glad I could read through and see the progress you've made over the years."
